I am curious if anyone has any formulas or knowledge pertaining to pre-emulsion bleed selection on Holley 4150 and 4500 HP series carbs. I am attempting to develope a starting point based on carb size, displacement, rpm range, and general application. Then my plan is to fine tune it from there.

The hours on the dyno testing and tuning all of the variables would make your eyes fall out and your ears ring.

May 21, 2016 · Simple emulsion/bleed circuit, compared to Holleys, which can be finicky. A Rochester would be a fine choice if it's in good condition. If they need any tuning past stock calibration, specialist info is needed. They are hard to get parts for due to not being made for more than 30 years now.

I can't really figure out why one carb will have two in one spot and another carb just one. They are various sizes.

I have John Passini's Weber tuning books, and have studied them carefully. Pretty well everything translates to Holleys, except that the means of adjusting are different. Air bleeds, emulsion tubes and PVCRs are exotic tweaking using drill bits on a Holley, but on Webers these are as easy to change as Holley main jets.

Not the float bowl level, I was talking about the level of the fuel in the emulsion tube well; #5 in the attached Fig 7-5 applicable to Holley, Autolite, Weber, etc. (Weber is even given credit for the drawing.) The incoming bleed air pushes the emulsion tube well fuel level down much below the float bowl level exposing more emulsion tube holes. Tune your top-end first, then address fine-tuning if necessary. It may require larger jets - but also check your fuel system to ensure it provides sufficient volume and pressure. To work properly, an 850 blow-through carburetor needs a large-displacement engine - and it's even more difficult to tune if it uses down-leg boosters.

Feb 16, 2020 · The 6/32 is for the emulsion holes, IFR and maybe one orther, the 8/32 in the PVCR and T slot restricters and the 10/32 will be your idle air and main air bleeds. I say go for it. You'll need a small drill set, and you should have some pin gauges wouldn't hurt and a tap set.
